<p>Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Police have successfully traced and arrested two long-absconding accused (LPC - Long-Pending Cases) in separate cases registered at the Women’s Police Station.</p><p>According to the Commissioner of Police, Sudheer Kumar Reddy C H, in the first case, P Damodara, the fourth accused in a 2011 prostitution-related case, had evaded arrest for nearly 14 years. The court had issued an LPC warrant against him. Acting on a special operation to trace such absconding accused, a team led by PI Balkrishna and his staff arrested Damodara, aged around 40, from Hoige Bazaar, Mangaluru, and produced him before the court. While three accused were acquitted during the trial, Damodara had absconded, leading to a pending warrant.</p><p>In the second case from 2018, the suspect, Ubaidulla, aged 39, a resident of Kankanady, had allegedly subjected his wife to physical and mental harassment over dowry, sold her gold jewellery, and moved abroad without contacting her or responding to her calls. A case was registered on 3 November 2018, under IPC Sections 498A and 504, said the Commissioner.</p><p>Ubaidulla had been absconding for seven years. Based on a tip-off that he was returning from abroad via Kannur International Airport on 29 July, police detained him at the airport and produced him before the court.</p>
