<p>Udupi: Udupi Superintendent of Police (SP) Hariram Shankar has launched a much-needed fitness initiative to ensure his force remains alert and agile. </p><p>In a first-of-its-kind, 71 police personnel including nine women who were found to be overweight, as per Body Mass Index (BMI) guidelines, were enrolled in a month-long wellness and fitness camp.</p><p>"The camp is not a punishment, but an opportunity to transform their lifestyles," emphasised Udupi SP Hariram Shankar.</p><p>Unlike previous camps, this one is being held at Pareeka Sri Manjunatheshwara Yoga and Nature Treatment Centre and is conceptualised not just to shed the extra flab but to inspire an overall wellbeing. </p><p>"The government has emphasised the need for physical fitness among the police force. We hope this initiative sets a benchmark for others," SP said.</p> .<p>All participants including a Sub-Inspector, 12 Assistant Sub-Inspectors, 35 Head Constables and 23 Police Constables are being motivated to achieve a single goal; to regain fitness and reclaim their vitality as in past. Their day begins early at 6:30 am and continues through structured training sessions until 6:30 pm.</p><p>The programme isn’t merely about sweating it out — it’s a holistic regimen blending the ancient discipline of yoga, precision of karate, energy of Zumba and the discipline of gym workouts. Daily nature walks through the green serenity of the centre also help rejuvenate the mind, Hariram Shankar explained. </p> .<p>A carefully curated diet plan and educational sessions on health, nutrition, and wellness are an essential part of the experience. The camp aims to not only bring down weight but to instill long-term awareness of personal well-being, he said. At the end of the month, each participant will be reassessed to ensure progress has been made in achieving a healthier BMI.</p><p>“This is not about naming or shaming,” SP clarified. “It’s about support, discipline, and self-betterment.” </p><p>With this initiative, Udupi police are not only policing the streets — they’re also monitoring their own fitness. And in doing so, they are setting an inspiring example for forces across the state.</p>
