Update beckons outdated Mysore website

District NIC to approach departments to submit data and details of officers

The official district website www.mysore.nic.in provides a glimpse into the geography, heritage and other aspects of the district.

It also hosts an online Public Grievances Redressal System, which allows an individual to air grievances against any department, operating in any part of the district.
However, a closer look reveals that the website is marked with outdated statistics from various departments.

To one’s dismay, links to activities of various departments lead to nowhere. The data of the Agriculture department was last updated in 2008, while data of both Horticulture and Health and Family Welfare department was last updated in 2006-07!
In a welcome move, the district branch of the National Informatics Centre (NIC), is taking steps to update the website and also change its ‘look and feel’.

District Information Officer Dasharath Mashal, speaking to Deccan Herald, said, updating the website is essential, as proposals have been made to open internet cafes at Grama Panchayat levels.

“Schemes of various departments, contact numbers of district and taluk level officers, annual statistics of departments will be available on the district website soon. This would help people with basic computer and internet knowledge, living in rural areas, to know about various programmes of the Central and State governments and benefit from them,” he said.

On why the departments have not updated data on the website, he said it would be thought of as duplication as various departments compile and upload their data on the state website.
