Utkrisht rake for Maveli Express

Maveli Express has been provided with a refurbished Utkrisht rake to provide greater comfort to passengers from Tuesday.

The first Utkrisht rake allotted in the Palakkad Division of Southern Railways has been introduced in the rake link of Maveli Express at Mangaluru Central Railway Station.

This is the fifth such rake being introduced by Southern Railways. At present four rakes are being used to maintain the link of the Maveli Express. The conversion of the other three rakes will be completed in a phased manner.

Refurbishing of coaches to the Utkrisht standard is being carried out at the Southern Railways workshops – Carriage Works Perambur and at the Golden Rock Workshop, Ponnamalai, Thiruchirapalli.

The exteriors of the coaches are painted apricot yellow and blood red. The interiors have been refurbished with a provision of LED lights.

The coaches have bio-toilets with health faucets and trash bins placed near the wash basins and also inside the toilets. The toilets in the air-conditioned coaches have soap dispensers. Single information notice boards and Braille signage have also been provided in the coaches.

There is a digital clock in the air-conditioned coaches and provision of fire extinguishers in the reserved coaches.
