<p>Raichur: Alleging that an unscientific caste census has been conducted in the state and that a conspiracy is being hatched to weaken the strength of the Veerashaiva and Lingayat communities on the basis of population and divide the society, Veerashaiva and Lingayat community leaders took out a massive protest rally in the City on Monday.</p><p>The leaders wore black bands and held a protest meeting near Harshita Garden near Renukacharya Circle on the City’s bypass road. </p><p>Then they marched to the new district administration office holding banners and raising slogans against the government.</p><p><strong>‘Do not accept report’</strong></p><p>The leaders demanded that the survey report submitted to the government by Karnataka State Permanent Commission for Backward Classes chairperson Jayaprakash Hegde in 2024 by making changes to the data of the 2015 Kantharaju Report, should not be accepted.</p><p>The Backward Classes Commission survey, which was launched in 2015 under the name of Social, Educational and Economic Survey, collected empirical data using a survey form consisting of 54 questions on 51 criteria. The Social, Educational and Economic Survey was not realistic and was limited to the classification and consolidation of castes and classes, especially sub-castes, he alleged.</p><p>He said, Section 2 of the KSCBC Act, 1995 has clarified that the reservation list of backward classes can be revised every 10 years, by deleting or adding new backward castes and communities from such a list. It is not right to take into consideration the caste census report based on this social and educational survey, which is more than 10 years old, he expressed ire.</p><p><strong>‘Error in report’</strong></p><p>The Chinnappa Reddy Commission identified 61 sub-castes of Veerashaiva Samaj, which constitute 17% of the population. The decrease to 11% shows an error in the survey, he expressed dissatisfaction.</p><p>The names of about 100 sub-sects, including Veerashaiva and Lingayat sub-sects, are in Category 3B, 2A, Category 1, 1A and 1B. </p><p>There has been no increase in similar sects in the category either, he said.</p><p>Later, district mutt heads, MLAs and leaders of social organisations submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner.</p><p>Raichur City MLA Shivaraj Patil, MLCs Basanagouda Badarli, Sharanagouda Bayyapur, former minister Venkatarao Nadagouda, former MLA Basangouda Byagawata, Veerashaiva Lingayat Samaj district unit president Sharanabhupal Nadagouda, All India Veerashaiva Lingayat Mahasabha district unit president Chandrashekar Patil Mirzapur, Basava Kendra president Rachanagouda Kolur, Veerashaiva Rudrasena district unit president Shivasharan Reddy, mutt heads and Veerashaiva and Lingayat Samaj leaders participated.</p>
