Vishwajith Athiraathra Somayaga from Feb 18

Nityananda Yogashrama at Kondevooru in Uppala, Kasargod, will organise “Vishwajith Athiraathra Somayaga” from February 18 to 24. The yaga is organised for the welfare of the world.

Briefing mediapersons, Yaga samithi working president Monappa Bhandary said that several religious and cultural programmes like Vishnu Sahasra Nama Abhiyaana, Sahasra Vruksha Samrudhi Abhiyaana and Sahasra Akshadhana Samkalpa Abhiyana had already begun.

“Preparations for the Somayaga have started. Lakhs of devotees from various parts of the country including Dubai, are likely to attend the Yaga,” he added.

He said in Somayaga, the main ingredient is Somarasa from Soma plant which has been sent by Union Minister Sripad Yasso Naik from Ladak.

“This yajna starts at sunrise and continues even after sunset. That’s why it is called Athiraathra. Including rituals held in normal Somayaga, 12 stotras and two shastras will be held. Later 1,300 mantras named Ashwini Sahasra, will be recited,” he said.

“The yajna mantapa is built on 700 square feet plinth area and is 70 feet in width and 100 feet tall. Another speciality of this Yajna is that after the completion of yajna, all the equipment used in the yajna will be disposed in water and the yajna mantapa will be burned down,” he added.

Bhandary said that horekanike for the yaga will be taken out from Aila Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple and Kadri Sri Manjunatheshwara Temple, on February 17.

A procession will be taken out with all the stuff prepared by various community
members to be offered in the yaga, from Uppala on February 18.
