<p>Bengaluru: BJP MLA and former state minister <a href="https://www.google.com/search?q=Munirathna+deccan+herald&oq=Munirathna+deccan+herald&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOdIBCDM2NDZqMGoxqAIAsAIB&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8">Munirathna's </a>first public appearance at a major public event after release on bail took a dramatic turn after he was targeted with egg on his head on Wednesday. </p><p>The R R Nagar legislator was walking to his car after attending Vajpayee birth anniversary celebrations in Lakshmidevi Nagar, Laggere, when the unsavoury incident occurred around 11:30 am. </p><p>Although no formal complaint has been filed, Nandini Layout police detained three suspects in connection with the attack. </p><p>Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Saidulu Adavath said an unidentified person threw the egg at the MLA as he was walking back to his car, about 50 metres from his office. </p><p>The incident was caught on camera by Kannada TV journalists.</p>.<p>"We had made elaborate security arrangements because it was a scheduled event. Our officers acted swiftly (to prevent things from getting out of control)," the DCP said. </p><p>Munirathna was taken to a hospital after the incident. However, police are not aware whether he sustained any injuries. </p><p>According to police sources, Munirathna was advised to get into his car directly at the venue but he chose to walk as it was only 50 metres. </p><p>This was Munirathna’s first significant public appearance following his release from the Bengaluru Central Prison. The MLA was arrested on charges of repeatedly raping a woman at his Vikasa Soudha office and other places, as well as hurling casteist abuses against a former BBMP corporator. </p><p>The state government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the cases. The SIT has already filed a charge sheet in the case under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. </p>.<p><strong>They are out to kill me: Munirathna</strong></p><p>Speaking to reporters shortly after the incident, the RR Nagar MLA alleged that Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar had "devised a plan" to get him killed because his brother, DK Suresh, was defeated (in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections).</p><p>Suresh lost from the Bangalore Rural parliamentary constituency, of which R R Nagar is a part. </p><p>"I will be killed for sure, and I will be killed because of a woman. That woman is no one but Kusuma (Hanumantharayappa), the wife of the late IAS officer D K Ravi," Munirathna said. </p><p>He suggested that Kusuma was doing this out of "political vendetta" because she had lost to him in the RR Nagar assembly election in 2023.</p>
