As the temperature has begun to soar, Tarikere taluk is likely to face a water crisis.

Though Tarikere had received good showers during the monsoon, the sources of water are depleting at a faster rate.

The water-level in Doddakere, Ramanaikanakere, Chikkere, Dalavayikere, Sunnadahallikere, Hadikere, Hirekathooru kere in Tarikere, lakes at Bukkambudi, Shivani hobli in Ajjampura taluks have declined drastically.

The residents are a worried lot over the depleting water level in the lakes.

Already, Koratikere, Narayanapura, Bankanakatte villages are facing an acute water crisis.

The district administration has initiated measures to recharge borewells at Koratikere.

The irregular power supply has also affected water supply at Dyampura, Ittige, Bairapura, Dornalu, Kudlooru, Bairapura in Kasaba hobli, which in turn has affected farmers in irrigating arecanut, banana, coconut and pepper crops.

As the Tarikere TMC has not taken measures to supply pure drinking water to residents of Ashraya colony, Sundaresh colony and Galihalli colony, the residents have to depend on borewells.

Taluk Panchayat EO Vishalakshamma said, “The authorities will initiate measures to supply water if the villages face any water crisis. The list of sensitive areas has already been identified. Borewells will be sunk to ensure supply of water.”

Bills amounting to Rs 1.14 crore are pending to be paid for the tankers that supplied water to the residents in the taluk for the last two years.

According to officials, till February end, 58 borewells have been sunk in the taluk.
