The state-level women’s literary conference being organised by Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP) will be a biennial event, KSP president Manu Baligar said on Sunday.

“I am committed to my promise on organising the women’s literary conference once in two years and a decision has been taken,” Baligar stressed while addressing the media on the sidelines of the valedictory of the two-day women’s literary conference organised at Kuvempu Kalamandira.

He agreed that the response on the second day was discouraging as few delegates had attended the sessions and valedictory programme. But none of them were ignored, he clarified and added that Parishat did not follow the tradition of sending the invitation and inviting members for the literary conference.

“Those with a passion for literature will attend the conference,” he added.

He said they were planning to organise a dalit literary conference in June or July. Earlier, during the day, only a few delegates attended the literary conference.

President of women’s literary conference Sudha Murty said the conference should be held once in two years and new issues should be discussed. This literary conference should campaign for more opportunities for women and the prevention of exploitation of women at work places.

“This conference should highlight the injustices being meted out on women,” she urged.

Sudha Murty left without attending the valedictory programme. Incidentally, no resolutions were adopted at the literary conference.
