Women's Congress members plan village stay in DK

District Women's Congress President Shalet Pinto said the State Women's Congress unit will conduct village stay programmes across the state from November 18 night to November 19 evening as part of the birth centenary of former prime minister Indira Gandhi.

Briefing media persons here, she said that all the 12 Block Women Congress wings will hold village stays in the houses of poor and Backward Class women.

The houses for village stay have been identified. Women from each block will visit the houses on November 18 at 4 pm. They will prepare food in the house and try to understand the problems of the families. The women's wing will work towards providing infrastructure facilities in the colonies where they stay, in the next one year. As a result, the programme will not be a one-day stay. Instead, the Women's Congress will continue to have interaction with the family throughout the year, she explained.

Pinto said Kadaba block has identified the house of Guruva belonging to Malekudiya community for the village stay. The members will catch fish from the river in the evening and prepare the curry from the fish, she added.

At Vittal, the members will stay in the house of a physically challenged woman, who is residing with her brother. The Women's Congress will try to fulfil her demand, she said.

The Mulki Block Women's Congress members will stay at the house of a Mogaveera woman at Sasihithlu. The woman's husband was a martyr. Along with this village stay, the Women's Congress wing will organise an 'Indira Namana' programme.

The district-level village stay programme will be inaugurated on November 18 at Adyar-Kannur in Mangaluru South Block.

The men Congress leaders will take part in the inaugural programme. However, they will not be part of village stay, she clarified.
