The protesters, earlier, took out a massive really from Dr H Narasimhaiah Circle raising slogans against the government. They later congregated in front of the Taluk Office and staged a dharna.
Addressing the protesters, CITU organiser N S Chalapathi castigated the ruling establishments for neglecting workers of unorganised sectors. The sector, which plays crucial role in mobilisation of the resources in the country has not been given the attention it deserves.

Poor plight
None of the governments that ruled the country so far have considered the plight of unorganised sector seriously. “Anganwadi workers, mid-day meal workers, vegetable vendors, porters and agricultural labourers constitute unorganised workers. However, it is unfortunate that the ruling dispensations have not taken any steps for the welfare of these people,” he pointed out. Venkatalakshmamma of Anganwadi Workers Association said that majority of the mid-day meal workers are women who are being exploited relentlessly.

She alleged that the mid-day meal workers are being harassed by  School Development and Mangement Committees. The workers have no security of any kind and the government should consider their plight seriously.
The protesters demanded uniform wage rate across the State, control on contract labour and effective enforcement of labour laws.
Coordinators of Centre for Indian Trade Unions G M Ramakrishnappa, Venkatesha Babu, Town Municipal Council member Noorulla, former member Krishnappa and others took part in the protest.
