World Forest Day observed

Deputy Conservator of Forests S Shivashankar said, it is the duty of everyone to prevent deforestation.


He was speaking after inaugurating a programme organised to observe World Forests Day, World Water Day and cleanliness drive, by Karnataka State Pollution Control Board regional unit, Bharath Scouts and Guides and General Thimmaiah Public School at General K S Thimmaiah Public School, here, on Thursday.

He said, there is a need to create awareness on prevention of deforestation and encouragement of afforestation among children.

Climate changes

In the wake of climate changes, conservation and development of forest should be the first priority. The cooperation of the people is a must in the conversation of the environment, he said.

Bharath Scouts and Guides president K T Baby Mathew said, free saplings are distributed among the people by the Forest department and children should spread the message. He said, there is a need to observe World Forest Day in every school.

Scouts and Guides district commissioner Jimmi Sequiera said, we are losing forests due to the construction of houses, forests are also affected due to forest fire and natural calamities. Good living is possible only with good environment, he added.

Regional Pollution Control Board environment officer M G Raghuram, Bharath Scouts and Guides district chief commissioner K B Kalappa, General Thimmaiah Public School Principal B M Saraswathi and others were present.
