<p>Hubballi: Expelled BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal welcomed the Dharwad High Court’s order for a judicial inquiry into the lathi charge on the protesters who were demanding 2A reservation for Panchamasalis in Belagavi. He emphasised that the investigation should be conducted impartially, and legal action should be taken against the culprits.</p><p>Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, Yatnal stated that the Panchamasali community was peacefully protesting under the leadership of Kudalasangama Basava Jaya Mrutyunjaya Swamiji, demanding quota. However, police officials suddenly resorted to lathi charge and acted brutally, he said.</p><p>Criticising certain members of the Akhila Bharat Lingayat Panchamasali Samaj Trust, Yatnal remarked that Basava Jaya Mrutyunjaya Swamiji is selflessly fighting for the welfare of the community. It is condemnable that some members of the trust are speaking against the seer. The properties related to their community’s mutt in Kudalasangama, which are currently under the control of the trust, should be returned to the Mutt, he said.</p><p>The court has previously ruled that there is no constitutional provision for religion-based reservation. Despite this, the state government’s decision to grant 4% reservation to Muslims in public work contracts is unconstitutional. “Our demand for 2A reservation for the Panchamasali community is legitimate,” he added.</p><p>The Congress government in the state calls reservation for Panchamasali and Veerashaiva is anti-constitutional, but the same government is ready to give 4% reservation to Muslims, he said.</p><p><strong>‘Tirupati agreement’</strong></p><p>Accusing former chief minister B S Yediyurappa of using Lingayat community for his political growth, Yatnal said that when Yediyurappa was asked to leave the CM’s post, he placed three conditions before Basavaraj Bommai to make him CM. He said talks were held in Tirupati and this ‘Tirupati agreement’ included not giving reservation to the Panchamasali community, not making Yatnal a minister and make Vijayendra a minister. After Bommai agreed upon these conditions, he was made the CM, Yatnal added. </p>
