The Karnataka Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation (KMF) has informed the Kerala government that it will initiate further expansion plans in Kerala only after further discussions.

Kerala animal husbandry minister's office informed that KMF conveyed that they would take a decision on further expansions in Kerala only after discussions. A delegation of officials from Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (KCMMF) would be deputed to KMF for holding discussions.

Apart from a letter sent by KCMMF to KMF, a couple of months back, expressing concern over the latter's decision to open outlets selling Nandini milk in Kerala, the state government had also recently sent a letter. Based on that KMF informed that they would go for further expansion only after discussions. Kerala had also sought National Dairy Development Board's (NDDB) intervention citing that the milk federation of one state selling milk in another state was against the cooperative principles.

A senior official at the Kerala animal husbandry minister's office told DH that the change in leadership of KMF after Congress came to power as well as the interventions of National Dairy Development Board seem to be reasons for change in the stand of KMF.

Nandini already opened around five outlets in Kerala and was planning to expand operations.

Even as KCMMF was also planning to open outlets in Karnataka, KCMMF chairman M S Mani said that only Milma milk products would be sold though the outlets in other states and milk would not be sold.
