German woman's fluent Malayalam leaves Uber driver pleasantly surprised, internet in awe

With language row intensifying in India by the day, a viral video showing a foreigner speak fluent Malayalam has won hearts.

A German woman is seen sitting in a cab and speaking in Malayalam with the driver who sounds very shocked by her strong hold on the language.

"You have never seen anyone speaking in Malayalam before, any foreigner?" Klara asks the cab driver, before the driver, a native Malayali speaker admits that he has not.

In the video she shared on Instagram, the duo can be seen conversing in Malayalam and the caption read: "Talking in Malayalam to Uber drivers always gets me a curious reaction, so I thought I’ll film the interaction once :)"

The video has received a lot of love on social media, with people praising her for her efforts in learning the language and fluency.

"Oh wow you picked up the language and you speak it so smoothly 🔥" one user commented, while another wrote: "She speaks better malayalam than the so called posh mallu kids."

People also found motivation in her video to learn Malayalam as one user wrote: "I hope this video reaches many and inspire Malayali’s who feel embarrassed to speak Malayalam even though it’s their mother tongue but converse in English adamantly".

Clara, whose Instagram handle reads - keralaklara is a German teacher by profession who is currently learning Malayalam. She picked up the language in the pandemic and learnt it on her own.

She has several pictures on her account where she is donning sarees that are traditional in Kerala. She has also shared pictures of her Onam celebrations where she can be seen sitting on grass making flower rangolis or Pookkalam.

Meanwhile, she also shares videos teaching German to Malayalam speaking audience.
