<p>Thiruvananthapuram: A 24-year-old woman in <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/thiruvananthapuram">Thiruvananthapuram </a>has been awarded the death sentence for poisoning her lover to death with a pesticide mixed herbal medicine. </p><p>Greeshma, 24, of Ramavarmachira in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, close to the Kerala border, was sentenced to death for murdering Sharon Raj, hailing from Parassala on the suburbs of Thiruvananthapuram, on October 25, 2022. </p><p>The Neyyatinkara additional sessions judge A M Basheer pronounced the judgment. Greeshma is considered to be the youngest woman to receive gallows in the state.</p><p>Her maternal uncle Nirmala Kumar, who was accused of destroying evidence, was sentenced to three years imprisonment. But her family fixed her marriage with another person. Hence Greeshma wanted to end relationship with Raj.</p><p>As Raj refused to break-up, Greeshma invited Raj to her house and gave him the pesticide mixed herbal medicine stating that she used to drink it. As he suffered uneasiness he was also given bottled juice. As he continued to vomit even after reaching home his parents took him to hospital and he died due to internal organ failure after a week.</p><p>In a 586 page judgment, the court maintained that it was a well-planned murder and needed to be considered as a rarest of rare. Greeshma committed a serious breach of trust which will send wrong message to the society. Her young age could not be considered for giving any lenience, the court observed.</p><p>Raj's parents, who were present in the court while delivering the judgment, welcomed the judgment. "Justice has been delivered by giving the maximum punishment to the one who killed our innocent son," said Raj's mother who could not hold her emotions.</p><p>Special prosecutor V S Vineethkumar said that while the convict tried to mislead the investigation cleverly, the investigation team was more clever in unraveling the truth with scientific evidence. </p>
