<p>Thiruvananthapuram: Three persons, including two women, were killed and around 30 injured after two elephants ran amok during a temple festival at Koyilandi on the suburbs of Kozhikode on Thursday. Conditions of five injured were reported to be serious.</p><p>The incident occurred at the Koyilandi Manakulangara temple on Thursday evening. As per preliminary reports, one of the elephants turned violent and attacked the other jumbo. There was a large crowd of people, including women and children, to witness the festival. They ran helter-skelter. The casualties were learnt to be caused in the stampede. All the injured were rushed to the nearby government hospital. Many structures in the temple, including a wall, collapsed in the elephants' attack.</p><p>Last week too persons were killed in separate incidents of elephants running amok during festivals in the state. Though the Kerala High Court prescribed stringent norms for parading elephants in festivals, festival organisers approached the supreme court and got a stay on the fresh guidelines. The Kerala government was backing the festival organisers.</p>
