The Karnataka government on Saturday filed a Special Leave Petition before the Supreme Court seeking postponement of the urban local body elections in the state.

In the petition, the state government said that it wanted to conduct elections after preparing the ward wise reservation list taking the 2011 census figures, which would be published in March.

The state’s said that if the wardwise reservation list was not done as per the 2011 census then it will affect social justice, as the population has increased in the last 10 years. Besides, many of the town panchayats, city municipal councils and city municipal councils have to be upgraded based on their population, the state said.
