According to Vashi, a former member of BCMG, since the advocates are practising in Belgaum, which is part of Karnataka state, the enrolment of these advocates in BCMG was illegal.

He said these advocates were enrolled in BCMG on sentimental grounds as Belgaum is a disputed area bordering Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Vashi has relied upon the provisions of Advocates Act wherein it was provided that advocates will be enrolled in the state where they are practising.
Vashi has also written letter to Bar Council of India to give directions to the state Bar Council to delete the names of these 315 advocates or transfer their "Sanads" to Karnataka Bar Council.
