As the much awaited CAG report concluded that the 36 Rafale fighter aircraft deal concluded by the BJP-led government is 2.86% cheaper than the deal negotiated by the previous Congress-led UPA government, BJP went to town calling it an “expose of lies” of the Opposition.

“Satyameva Jayate – truth shall prevail. The CAG report on Rafale reaffirms the dictum,” Union Minister Arun Jaitley said latching onto the report, which was presented in Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

Notwitstanding the CAG report, Congress President Rahul Gandhi, addressing the Congress Parliamentary Party's general body meeting, described the Rafale deal as a "systematic robbery" from the Indian defence forces, just a day after he had defined CAG as “Chowkidar Auditor General”, suggesting that the CAG was Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s own voice.

Only dynasty right?

Jaitley, quoting the CAG report, said “It cannot be true that the Supreme Court is wrong, the CAG is wrong and only the dynasty is right.” He sought to know how does democracy punish those who consistently lied to the nation?

“The lies of ‘Mahajhootbandhan’ (grand alliance of lies) stand exposed by the CAG report,” he said.

On Tuesday, the Union Minister had tweeted, “Without a shred of evidence, a fictional conflict of interest of the CAG is invented. How many more lies will be peddled to sustain a sinking dynast? India, certainly deserves better.”

Hitting out at Rahul Gandhi, Jaitley had also said, “The dynast and his friends have in the past even attacked the Supreme Court when it rejected the writ petition on Rafale. The entire pricing argument was factually wrong.”
