A day after Shiv Sena MP Hemant Patil made Dr Shyamrao Wakode, the Dean of the Dr Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College and Hospital in Nanded clean the toilet after it was found to be messy, the lawmaker is facing ire for his actions.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media platforms.

The Nanded Rural Police booked Patil under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the Maharashtra Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss to Property) Act.

Patil, the MP from Hingoli, was booked following a complaint by Dr Wakode.

On the other hand, the Maharashtra chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has sent a memorandum to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde demanding necessary action into the treatment meted out to the acting dean.

"We will be forced to launch a statewide agitation if necessary action is not taken," the memorandum said.
