<p>Mumbai: Heavy overnight rains lashed Mumbai and its suburbs, bringing much needed relief, but putting people in trouble because of its ill-effects on traffic on Friday while the financial capital heads for a wet weekend.</p><p>The IMD’s Mumbai-based Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) and BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall for the day.</p><p>At around 1240 hrs, a 4.66 metres high ride is expected to hit the shores.</p><p>Over the past two days, the Mumbai metropolitan region (MMR) comprising twin districts of Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban, as well as neighbouring districts of Palghar, Thane and Raigad is receiving good rainfall. </p><p>The BMC and Mumbai Police have asked people to stay away from the coast as a precautionary measure. </p>.Karnataka: Nine districts in state face rain deficit; Kolar worst hit. <p>"Generally cloudy sky with possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai city and suburbs,” the BMC said.</p><p>“Due to heavy rainfall in Mumbai and nearby districts, citizens are advised to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary, avoid coastal areas, and drive cautiously,” the Mumbai Police said.</p><p>Airlines have warned passengers that flight timings to/from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai may get affected owing to the rains.</p><p>"Due to bad weather (heavy rain) in Mumbai (BOM), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status,” SpiceJet said.</p><p>“With heavy rainfall and thunderstorms expected over Mumbai, we’re seeing a chance of delays and slower traffic to and from the airport. While we can’t control the skies, we’re doing everything possible to keep your journey steady on the ground. Please check your flight status and consider giving yourself a little cushion of time to reach the airport,” IndiGo said.</p><p>Waterlogging was reported at several places in the Mumbai-MMR leading to road traffic mess in chronic spots.</p><p>“Due to 1-1.5 ft water logging, the Andheri Subway is closed for vehicular movement. Traffic is diverted via the Gokhale Bridge and Thackeray Bridge,” the Mumbai Traffic Police said. </p><p>“Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at few places in the districts of Konkan-Goa, at isolated places in ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra,” the RMC-Mumbai said in its forecast.</p>
