<p>Mumbai: In a race against time, a heart retrieved from a road accident victim in Aurangabad was airlifted to <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/mumbai">Mumbai</a> and transported via a green corridor to Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital (HN RFH) in Mumbai in flat two hours. </p><p>After reaching the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai, the heart was brought to the hospital in Girgaon in just 18 minutes. </p><p>The heart was then successfully transplanted into a 55-year-old patient suffering from end-stage heart failure. </p><p>The entire journey, from retrieval to arrival at the hospital, was completed in just around two hours, a remarkable testament to medical precision and seamless coordination.</p><p>The recipient had been on the transplant list and was battling severe heart issues and was in dire need of a transplant. He had a complex medical history, including three angioplasties and an AICD (automated implantable cardioverter-defibrillator) implantation. </p><p>He has been battling dilated cardiomyopathy for the past five years.</p>.‘Fake’ doctor case: Cath lab of MP's Damoh Missionary Hospital sealed.<p>Immediate heart transplant was necessary in this case and was performed by cardiac surgeon Dr. Anvay Mulay, the Director of Advanced Cardiac Surgery and Heart Transplant, Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital.</p><p>The procedure was successful, and the patient is currently stable and out of danger.</p><p>“We need more awareness for organ donation as there is a huge gap in availability of organs and demand for the same. Many more lives can be saved if families are counselled and with the support of authorities to harvest and transport organs in a timely fashion. </p><p>This transplant was a lifesaving intervention for the patient suffering from end-stage heart failure. The creation of the green corridor and seamless transfer of the organ made it possible for us to perform the transplant in optimal time,” he said.</p>
