TCS employee sleeps on footpath outside Pune office due to 'no money', company responds

Recently a Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) employee in Maharashtra's Pune was seen sleeping outside its office stating "missing salary".

A post regarding this, with the picture of the employee sleeping on the streets was shared on Instagram by user named 'beingpunekarofficial'.

The picture also showed a letter written by the employee saying, he has "reported back to TCS office on July 29, and still his ID is not active", and has not received his salary which was "confirmed on July 31".

"During the meeting I have informed HR I don't have money and will be forced to live outside TCS on footpath; HR has not responded to that and have kept quiet," he wrote in the letter.

The post garnered attention from netizens and received over 14k likes. In an updated caption however, the account added the statement given by TCS and mentioned it to be a case of "unauthorised absence".

"We would like you to correct your story about one of our employees. This is a case of unauthorized absence where the employee has been absent from office. In accordance with standard procedure, payroll was suspended during this period," it read.

Further it added that the employee has reported back to work and has requested reinstatement. The company has provided him with accommodation and are "addressing the situation in a constructive manner".

The comments under the post called out the company's "behaviour".

"Heartbreaking, no one should have to go through this," a comment read.

"This is so sad," a second user wrote.

Forum For IT Employees (FITE) also responded on the issue on their official X handle, saying they "stand in solidarity with the TCS employee".

"However, salary delays and job-related issues should also be formally reported to the Labour Office. Protesting is a strong visual message, but combining it with a legal complaint strengthens the fight and compels accountability," the post read.
