<p>Guwahati: In another major success towards disarmament, security forces in strife-torn Manipur on Monday recovered 155 weapons and over 1,650 ammunition during drives in five Kuki-dominated districts. </p><p>This was the fourth major recovery of weapons since imposition of President's Rule in February, raising hope about restoration of peace in the state that has remained on the boil since May 2023. </p>.Medical check-up in Bengaluru for students from strife-hit Manipur .<p>Manipur police said the 155 weapons including 39 IEDs and 13 grenades were recovered from several places in Churachandpur, Pherzawl, Kangpokpi, Tengnoupal and Chandel districts based on intelligence inputs. The recovered weapons included eight AK series rifles, six INSAS rifles and one SLR. </p><p>Weapons were similarly recovered from the Meitei-dominated districts in the valley, Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kakching. Manipur police, army, Assam Rifles and other paramilitary forces were part of the drive. On Saturday, 90 such weapons were recovered from the valley districts.</p><p><strong>Drive after President's Rule</strong></p><p>Sources in Manipur police told DH that most of the recovered weapons were looted in May 2024 when the conflict involving the Meitei and the Kuki communities flared up. But the drive to recover the weapons was intensified after President's Rule was promulgated in Manipur in February. More than 6,000 weapons were looted from the security forces but nearly 1,000 weapons have still remained missing, police officials said.</p><p>The recovery came a day after Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla said efforts were underway to restore atmosphere of peace and the steps taken are now yielding results. Bhalla had asked both the communities to help in disarmament drive. </p><p>"These continued intelligence-led operations in the hill districts represent a major accomplishment for the Manipur Police, Assam Rifles/ Army and other security forces in their continued mission to restore peace, uphold public order, and safeguard the lives and property of citizens," said a statement issued by Manipur police.</p><p><strong>Major hauls</strong></p><p>June 14: 328 weapons seized from Imphal valley districts.</p><p>July 4: 203 weapons including 30 IEDs recovered in Kuki-dominated districts.</p><p>July 26: 90 weapons recovered in the valley districts. </p><p>July 28: 155 weapons including 39 IEDs found in Kuki-dominated districts. </p>
