Minor rape victim dies in Lucknow

A 10-year-old rape victim died at a hospital here after battling for life for five days. A class IV student, the girl, a resident of Balsinghkhera, a few kilometres from here, was raped by Lallu Rawat of the same village on Monday.

The victim had gone to the fields to graze her goats when she was dragged to a secluded spot and raped. Rawat was arrested later. The anguished family members of the victim blamed the apathetical attitude of police and doctors for her death.

They said the victim was bleeding from her private parts when they rushed her to a private hospital, but the doctors refused to treat her without first completing formalities with the police.

They were directed to the Nagram police station. “We called up the ambulance for shifting the girl to some hospital in the state capital but it did not arrive,” the family members alleged.

She was brought to a hospital here late at night in a private vehicle, but the doctors referred her to another government hospital saying the facilities were better there.
Rape victims have died for want of timely treatment earlier as well. 

Glitches

A few days ago, a rape victim was made to wait for several hours as there were some technical glitches in the police application.

Another minor rape victim underwent a similar trauma after  doctors refused to examine her without ascertaining her correct age. In both cases, the victims were made to sit with other patients in the hospital corridor. The doctors were later warned by senior officials for the humiliation inflicted on the victims.
