<p>New Delhi: Congress on Tuesday claimed that the Modi government has lost moral authority with US President Donald Trump announcing the ceasefire between India and Pakistan and asked why it was still listening to him when the country has always withstood American pressure in the past.</p><p>Addressing a press conference here, senior <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/congress">Congress</a> leader Ashok Gehlot also questioned the hurried ceasefire when Indian forces had the “upper hand” to ensure that Pakistan fell in line and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to explain the role, threat on trade and claims of Trump.</p><p>“The manner in which the ceasefire was announced, this government has lost the moral authority and moral courage to rule…This was a golden opportunity for himself, the government and the country but it has been lost by the sudden announcement of a ceasefire,” he said.</p><p><em><strong><a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/india/india-pak-tensions-live-latest-updates-breaking-news-bjp-congress-narendra-modi-amit-shah-rajnath-singh-operation-sindoor-jammu-and-kashmir-loc-vikram-misri-pakistan-india-tensions-ceasefire-indian-armed-forces-pahalgam-3537632">Track LIVE updates on India-Pakistan tensions here</a></strong></em></p>.Oppn will question govt about Trump's claims on brokering 'ceasefire' at all-party meet: Kharge.<p>He said the Prime Minister’s address to the nation on Monday night explained many things, including future policy on terrorism. Modi talked about “good things, made some future promises about terrorism and nuclear bombs. All that is good , but none understood why there was a sudden ceasefire,” he said.</p><p>“Indian armed forces have been doing wonderfully well since Independence. America has always pressured India. It was there during (annexation of) Goa, Sikkim. (It was there during) Bangladesh. Indira Gandhi did not succumb to pressure from Richard Nixon (during the Bangladesh war). We don’t know whether he intervened with the Indian government’s consent or whether he acted on his own. The PM, the MEA should make it clear. Why are we listening to him? Why are we not clarifying?” he said while asking whether Trump was encouraged because the government remained silent. </p><p>Referring to Trump’s statement that he will mediate on Kashmir, he said it is dangerous to know that the US president insists that he can help on Kashmir as one does not know whether he would be on the Indian side. “My complaint about the Prime Minister is that he did not say anything on this,” he said. </p>.Pakistan sent 300-400 drones in 36 locations, Indian forces shot them down: MEA.<p>He claimed the BJP has been rattled by the public sentiment over the ceasefire and that prompted them to announce country-wide ‘Tiranga Yatras’. “But people have now realised their true colours”, he said.</p><p>He also said the Prime Minister should provide details about who all were involved in the discussions on ceasefire and why the people were not informed about the issue being discussed.</p><p>Gehlot also said the Prime Minister’s address also did not touch upon how Trump made the ceasefire announcement first. “It is not that the US did not know that the PM will be addressing the nation…He should have responded to Trump in his address,” he said.</p>
