Stray incidents of mishaps, including a person being crushed to death when a makeshift rain shade at Parel in central Mumbai came crashing down, were reported from Mumbai and other parts of the state. The rain shade atop a shop came down when people were trying to catch a glimpse of Lal Baugcha Raja (King of Lal Baug).

In another incident, many people sustained minor injuries when a 12-foot Ganesha idol toppled over while being escorted through Chinchopkli in central Mumbai.

The procession of small and private idols started at noon, while the procession of bigger idols — following instructions from the police to finish all the rituals before midnight — also started after noon. However, the rain battered roads slowed down the processions at many places.

A tight vigil was maintained during the procession. CCTV cameras also kept a hawk’s eye on the crowd during the immersion procession in different parts of the city.
