NIA announces Rs 2 lakh reward for information on Amravati chemist murder suspect

The probe agency has so far arrested 10 people in connection with Kolhe's murder

After having made substantial progress in the sensational Umesh Kolhe murder case of Amravati, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh for information about Shaheem Ahmed, an absconding suspect in the case.

Kolhe, a pharmacist/chemist, was killed ISIS-style by slitting his throat by three bike-borne assailants in Amravati on 21 June - a week before the Udaipur incident was reported on 28 June, in which a tailor Kanhaiyalal Teli was hacked to death by two persons.

The victim was killed for sharing a social media post supporting former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma's controversial remarks about Prophet Mohammad.

A case has been registered under sections 16, 18 and 20 of UAPA Act, 302, 120 (B), 153 (A), 153 (B) of IPC on the complaint of Sanket Kolhe, the son of the victim.

Later the NIA took over the investigations into the case.

The wanted suspect, Shamim Ahmed, is a resident of Zakir Colony in Amravati, and he has been absconding for the last couple of months.

The 10 arrested suspects in the case are Irfan Shaikh, Shoaib Khan, Mudassir Ahmed, Aatif Rashid, Yusuf Khan, Abdul Toufiq and Shahrukh Pathan, Abdul Arbaz, Maulavi Mushfique Ahmed and Shaikh Salim Shaikh Chhotu.
