The Opposition parties on Tuesday took objection to the government move to amend 40 different laws through the Finance Bill that was taken up for discussion in the Lok Sabha.

The objections were over-ruled by Speaker Sumitra Mahajan before the bill was taken up for discussion. Revolutionary Socialist Party  member N K Premachandran opposed the Finance Bill contending that it was seeking to amend 40 laws that do not strictly fall within the ambit of taxation proposals.

Premachandran said the last-minute amendments moved by the government seek changes to the Representation of the People’s Act (RP Act), the RBI Act, the SEBI Act, Oil Industries Development Act, TRAI Act, the Airports Authority of India Act and do not pertain to financial proposals of the Centre for financial year 2017-18.
