Picture of slain cop's daughter goes viral

Amid continued bloodshed in Kashmir, the heart-wrenching picture of little girl Zohra, mourning the demise of her policeman father has taken the social media by storm. Cutting across individual ideologies, the people of Kashmir are widely expressing their sympathy with a little-orphaned girl. Assistant sub-inspector Abdul Rashid was shot at by militants in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday and died of his injuries at a hospital.

"One more Kashmiri orphan added in the list, nobody cares about Kashmiris if this cycle will remain continuous there will be no more humans left on the soil of Kashmir," Sajid Yousuf, a Facebook user wrote on his wall.

Majid Hyderi, a journalist, while commenting on the picture urged India and Pakistan to resolve Kashmir so that such incidents don't reoccur. "Dear India and Pakistan, let there be no more killings. Let there be a unanimous resolve for peace: Resolve Kashmir!"

"This little girl was orphaned on August 28 when her dad, a cop was hit by a militant bullet in Islamabad (Anantnag). Two months ago we saw a militant and a cop being buried in same Martyrs graveyard in Sopore on the same day amid common slogans like Allahu Akbar," he wrote on his Facebook.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir, Swam Prakash Pani wrote on Facebook: "My Dear Zohra, Your tears have shaken many hearts.The sacrifice made by your father will always be remembered. You are too young to understand as to why this happened.You are too young to understand as to why this happened... Your father like all of us represented Jammu Kashmir police force -- a hallmark of valour and sacrifice.”

Reacting to Pani's post, Zubair Sofi, a netizen wrote: "SIR...police persons r being badly treated in the society... But sir the most unfortunate thing is that they r being harassed by their own police officers....Give them respect when they r alive...not when they die..."

The Twitter was also flooded with heartbreaking pictures of Zohra mourning on his father's coffin with one user lamenting, “She doesn’t deserve this pain.” "Our children cry, our people die, and we all keep bearing the unending pain," another user added.
