<p>New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Railways on Sunday said all passenger train coaches and locomotives would have CCTV cameras for better passengers safety.</p>.<p>Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has given the go-ahead to instal CCTV cameras in all 74,000 coaches and 15,000 locos, said a Railways statement.</p>.<p>The decision was taken after a "positive response" to a trial conducted in loco engines and coaches of the Northern Railway.</p>.<p>"Miscreants and organised gangs take advantage of gullible passengers. With cameras, such incidents will significantly reduce, " said the statement.</p>.Install CCTV cameras at KR Market: BBMP zone commissioner.<p>The plan involves covering each railway coach with four dome-type CCTV cameras: two in each entrance way, and six cameras in every locomotive. The plan for locomotives involves one camera each at the front, in the rear, and on both sides.</p>.<p>Vaishnaw, who chaired a meeting with top railway officials, asked them to ensure that high-quality footage should be available even for trains running at 100+ kmph and also under low-light conditions.</p>.<p>The Union minister also suggested that officials explore the use of artificial intelligence (AI) on the data captured by the CCTV cameras, in collaboration with the IndiaAI mission.</p>.<p><strong>Privacy concerns</strong></p>.<p>Indian Railways also clarified that in efforts to preserve the privacy of passengers, the CCTV cameras would be installed in the common movement areas and near the doors.</p>.<p>“The purpose of fitting cameras in the common movement areas of coaches is to improve safety and security of passengers,” said the ministry.</p>
