Railways to introduce marginal hike in fare from July 1

New Delhi: The Indian Railways is set to introduce a marginal increase in the fares of AC and non-AC Mail, Express, and second class tickets, effective from July 1 this year.

As per proposal, the minimal hike of 1 paisa per km in the fare tariff for non-AC Mail and Express trains, while a 2 paisa per km increase for AC class tickets, said an official in the railways.

There will be no hike in sub-urban train fare and monthly season ticket. The railways also said there will not be any hike upto 500 km in second class ordinary ticket. After 500 km, there will be half a paise hike per km in second class ordinary ticket, said an official in the railways.

The revision comes as part of Indian Railways' ongoing efforts to manage operational costs without burdening passengers, especially regular commuters and those travelling short distance.
