<p>Bengaluru: A Bengaluru court on Tuesday rejected the bail petition filed by a Ballari jeweller arrested in the infamous Ranya Rao gold smuggling case.</p><p>The Special Court of Economic Offences judge Vishwanath Channabasappa Gowdar rejected the application filed by Sahil Sakariya Jain. “The bail application filed by accused 3 under section 480 of BNSS, 2023, is hereby rejected,” the court ordered.</p><p>A detailed order is awaited.</p><p>The counsel for the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) filed objections against the plea, while Jain's representatives argued for bail. He allegedly accepted having helped her by sending Rs 38.3 crore to Dubai via Hawala and getting Rs 1.73 crore through the same channel. The DRI also claimed that Jain received Rs 55,000 as commission for each transaction.</p><p>DRI seeks Ranya’s statement</p><p>The senior standing counsel for the DRI moved a fresh application before the special court seeking permission to obtain Ranya’s statement from the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru, where she is currently held under judicial remand, on April 18 and 19. </p><p>The court has directed Ranya’s counsel to file objections and adjourned the hearing to Wednesday, April 16.</p>
