Rare winter showers to continue till Saturday

Most parts of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu experienced light to heavy rainfall on Thursday. The weather office expects two more rainy days.

Rainfall is rare in winter, especially in January and February, according to Sundar Mahadev Metri, director in charge of the Bengaluru office of the India Meteorological Department. North and south-interior Karnataka will experience cloudy skies and showers on Friday and Saturday, he said.

The Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, has forecast heavy rain over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

HAL airport in Bengaluru recorded 0.1 mm rainfall on Thursday. The maximum temperature in the city dropped to 26 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal.

The minimum temperature was 18.3, one degree below normal. In Tamil Nadu, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam received 20 mm rain each over 24 hours. Papanasam (Tirunelveli) recorded 10 mm.
