To allay fears over mandatory teaching of Sanskrit, Samskrita Bharati, a body which wants German replaced with Sanskrit as third language in schools, on Friday said “there’s deliberate attempt to misunderstand things.”

“We are not insisting on compulsory teaching of Sanskrit as third language in schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education. We only want that 3-language formula to be adopted and any of the 22 scheduled Indian languages be taught as third language,” Dinesh Kamath, Organisation secretary of Samskrita Bharati, told Deccan Herald.

Sanskrit Bharati is not against teaching and learning of any foreign language but it should not be done in India in violation of the law.
