The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a plea seeking its intervention to ensure proper implementation of the Right to Education Act.

"India is a huge country. Certainly, education is a priority. But one can't expect miracles to happen overnight," Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said, presiding over a three-judge bench.

Senior advocate Colin Gonsalves, representing 'Akhil Bhartiya Prathmik Shikshak Sangh', contended that there has been poor implementation of the Right to Education Act.

He also pointed out despite the representation sent to authorities, nothing much has been done.

"We don't think, we can, or we should or we will examine implementation of an Act," the bench, also comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and K M Joseph, said.

"We will not interfere," the bench added, dismissing the petition.
