A bench of Chief Justice K G Balakrishanan and Justice P Sathasivam said the order of the High Court was struck down as it was against the rule of law.

Petitioners Javed Iqbal Matoo and Rohit Baskotra, the superintendent and deputy superintendent of police of Shopian, respectively, have been directed to approach the sessions court for bail on Monday.

The SC expressed  its displeasure on the decision of the Jammu and Kashmir Bar Association not to appear for the police officers who had been arrested on the direction of the HC after the special investigating team submitted a report. Senior advocate Mukul Rohtagi, appearing for the petitioners, submitted that the order of the HC was wrong and the police officers were not involved in the crime.
