<p>Chennai: The <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/madras-high-court">Madras High Court </a>on Tuesday ordered Rs 25 lakh as interim relief to the family of B Ajith Kumar, who was brutally assaulted by policemen in custody leading to his subsequent death. </p><p>The deceased, who worked as a guard at the Madapuram Badrakaliamman Temple in Tirupuvanam, died on June 29 after being brutally thrashed by six policemen who were tasked to probe his alleged role in the case of missing jewellery from a car. </p>.Tamil Nadu temple guard custodial death: CBI files murder case against police, takes over probe.<p>The court deemed the Rs 7.5 lakhs offered by the Tamil Nadu government to the family as compensation as “inadequate” in the light of the post-mortem report which has confirmed multiple injury marks on the deceased person. </p><p>The court ordered that the government pay Rs 25 lakh as interim compensation to the family. </p><p>Ajith Kumar’s death in police custody led to a major uproar warranting an intervention from the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court which prompted Chief Minister M K Stalin to transfer the case to CBI. The Tamil Nadu police suspended six policemen – five of whom are in judicial custody – and the deputy superintendent of police (Manamadurai) and shunted out Superintendent of Police Ashish Rawat and placed him on wait list.</p><p>Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which registered a case of murder against six policemen on July 12, has taken over the probe. </p>.Temple security guard's custodial death kicks up political row in Tamil Nadu, 5 accused cops held.<p>The government came under further scrutiny and faced more questions as a video of the six policemen brutally thrashing the youth despite his screams emerged and went viral on social media.</p><p>Ajith Kumar, who worked as a security guard at Madapuram Badrakaliamman Temple in Tirupuvanam, in Sivaganga district, died after being allegedly tortured by six policemen of a “special team” formed to probe his role into a complaint filed by a mother-daughter duo that 10 sovereigns of gold went missing from their car. </p>.Security guard allegedly dies in police custody, AIADMK slams CM Stalin.<p>The duo asked Ajith Kumar to park their vehicle and the victim, it is believed, sought the help of others in parking the car following which the women alleged that 10 sovereigns of gold went missing from their vehicle. </p><p>The police detained Ajith Kumar, his brother Naveen Kumar, and three others and let them off by June 27 evening but only to pick them up once again and take them to different locations before beating up the deceased. </p><p>The deceased’s brother, Naveen Kumar, who was also detained by the “special police team” had alleged that his brother was brutally thrashed in front of him and he was declared dead at a private hospital where he was taken on June 29 morning. </p>
