UP CM directs officials to set up detention centres for illegal Rohingyas, Bangladeshi Muslims

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has drawn up plans to crackdown on the ‘illegal’ Rohangiya Muslims and Bangladeshis living in different parts in the state.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday directed the officials in all the 17 municipal corporations in the state to draw a list of the Rohangiya Muslims and Bangladeshis, who were mainly engaged in sanitation jobs and hand it over to the commissioners and IGs.

The commissioners and IGs have been directed to set-up detention centres on the lines of Delhi in every division in the state in the first stage, according to the sources.

Sources said that the work of identification of places to house these illegal immigrants had started. ‘’They will be housed in vacant government buildings, community centres, and Police Lines under strict security,’’ said an official here.

The officials said that many of these illegal immigrants were also in possession of documents to take benefits of the government welfare schemes and the officials have been asked to verify them.

Sources said that the drive to trace the Rohangiya Muslims and Bangladeshi immigrants has already started in several districts and that it was likely to gain pace after the chief minister’s latest directive.
