<p>Lucknow: Amid the ongoing court cases involving ownership disputes over many mosques in the state, authorities in <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/india/uttar-pradesh">Uttar Pradesh</a>’s Fatehpur district, about 125 kilometres from here, on Tuesday demolished what they said was an illegally constructed portion of a 180-year-old mosque.</p><p>According to the reports, the rear portion of the Noori Jama Masjid in Lalauli town in the district, was demolished with the help of bulldozers in the presence of a large contingent of police and PAC personnel.</p><p>The officials said that the rear wall of the mosque had been constructed after encroaching the government land. ‘’The illegal construction was demolished as the road was being widened,’’ said an official in Fatehpur.</p>.Now, a controversy over UP's Muzaffarnagar mosque.<p>The official said that two notices were sent to the mosque caretaker in August and September asking him to demolish the structure which was on the encroached land. The Mosque caretaker had then sought one month's time to do that, he added.</p><p>‘’The illegal portion was demolished after the Mosque Committee failed to remove the same within the time sought,’’ the official said.</p><p>The Mosque Committee had moved the Allahabad high court seeking stay on the demolition proceedings. The high court has fixed December 13 for hearing of the matter.</p><p>The mosque caretaker said that the Mosque was 180-year-old and that it was included in the list of protected monuments. ‘’We pleaded that the demolition of the rear walls will damage the mosque and requested them to wait for the court hearing but they did not listen to us,’’ the caretaker said.</p>
