Out on bail in rape case, man hangs self at home in UP

Firozabad: A 32-year-old man accused of raping his sister-in-law and recently released on bail was found hanging at his home here, police said on Saturday.

Shivam alias Tanu, from Humayunpur in Firozabad south area, was found dead at his home on Saturday night. He was alone at the time of the incident, they said.

Family members said, he hails from Akbarpur area in Kanpur Dehat district and was accused of rape by his sister-in-law, leading to his arrest.

He was later released on bail and appeared in court on June 17 following which he was depressed and withdrawn, according to his family.

Station House Officer Yogendra Pal Singh said a police team reached the spot upon receiving information regarding a man killing self at his house in Humayunpur.

He said that the rape case is pending in the court. An investigation into the suicide has been launched after conducting the post-mortem.
