'We are not safe': Unnao rape survivor says she is receiving threats after Sengar's bail

Lucknow: The 2017 Unnao rape case survivor on Wednesday termed the Delhi High Court’s decision to grant bail to the accused and expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Senger as ‘injustice’ and said that she and her family have started receiving threats from Senger's henchmen.

The victim, held a demonstration against the court’s decision with her mother and lawyer Yogita Bhayana at India Gate on Tuesday evening and said that she felt like dying by suicide after the hearing decision but changed her mind for the sake of her family.

‘’We have been meted with injustice. How will we be safe if such a person comes out. We are not safe,’’ she said, adding that she would move the Supreme Court against the verdict.

The victim and others were removed from India Gate by Delhi police later.

The sister of the victim said that they should all be put in jail for safety. ‘’At least we will be safe there (jail), his henchmen are threatening us.

"We have a brother, god knows what Senger’s men's could do to him. Our family is not safe,’’ she said.

Meanwhile Aasha Devi, the mother of 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape victim, also expressed serious concern at the bail for Senger and said that restriction on movement of the accused did not make any difference.

She expressed surprise at the decision of the court and said that bail should not be granted to the accused.

Bhayana claimed that the CRPF personnel stopped the victim from meeting her in the morning. She also shared a video on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) regarding the same.

Some media reports claimed that the mother of the victim was forced to jump out of a moving bus in which the victim was also sitting. The duo were on their way to meet the media but could not do so.

Senger, who was sentenced to life in the matter, however would remain in jail as he was also serving a ten year sentence in the case of custodial death of the victim's father.

In 2017, Senger had lured the victim—then a minor—on the pretext of getting her a job and raped her.
