West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose, also the chancellor of state’s universities, has reached out to Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for technical assistance to eliminate ragging from varsities in the state.

The premiere institute, a note shared by Raj Bhavan-Kolkata stated, has offered support in the form of advanced technology to check ragging.

The note shared late night on Thursday titled 'ISRO technology to prevent ragging in WB Universities' stated, “Close on wheels of the success of the Chandrayaan Mission, ISRO has offered support of advanced technology to prevent ragging in the university campuses in West Bengal.”

Governor Bose contacted the Chairman of ISRO Somanath for identifying appropriate technology to effectively contain and eliminate the menace of ragging in the university campuses, the Raj Bhavan note mentioned. The Governor also took up the issue with Advanced Data Processing Research Institute (ADRIN).

“They are trying to develop an appropriate technology solution using multiple sources, such as video analytics, image matching, automatic target recognition and remote sensing. JU VC has been authorised to take the matter forward,” the note added.

A student recently loss his life at Jadavpur University due to alleged ragging. The Governor’s reachout, apparently, is in this context.

The incident has enraged students and has also triggered a political stir. The BJP youth wing, on Friday, took out a rally to protest against the incident.

The Trinamool chief, earlier, while referring to individuals – who were allegedly involved in the student’s ragging – had stated that these were Marxists, in cahoots with the BJP and the Congress in Bengal, and Trinamool is their prime enemy.
