Who is Dayan Krishnan, NLSIU alumnus leading Tahawwur Rana's NIA prosecution in Delhi?

New Delhi: Senior advocate Dayan Krishnan, who represented India in securing the extradition of 26/11 accused Tahawwur Rana in a US court, will now lead the NIA prosecution in Delhi.

An alumnus of the first batch of National Law School of India University (NLSIU) in 1993, Krishnan worked with senior advocate and former Supreme Court judge Santosh Hegde before establishing his own practice in 1999.

A native of Ooty, he became the second NLSIU graduate to be designated as a senior advocate by the Delhi High Court in 2014. Krishnan has handled several landmark cases, including the 2001 Parliament attack, Cauvery water dispute and key telecommunication matters.

Krishnan was the special public prosecutor in the December 2012 Delhi gang-rape and murder case. In the past, he has represented the Centre, NIA, CBI, Delhi government and Delhi Police in several high-profile cases.

He represented the Indian government for the extradition of Ravi Shankaran from the UK in 2011 and was the special NIA counsel comprising a four-member team that visited Chicago to interrogate 26/11 attacks mastermind David Headly.

Krishnan will have assistance from Special Prosecutor Narender Mann, a seasoned criminal lawyer, who has earlier represented the CBI in the Delhi High Court.

Mann graduated from Delhi University in 1990 and has represented the CBI and appeared in several important cases, including an attempt on the life of former CJI AN Ray.
