'Install pump to supply water to Karagada canal'

District In-charge Minister K J George directed the engineers of Minor Irrigation Department to install a pump at Devikere to supply water to Karagada canal.

Speaking after inspecting the condition of Karagada canals near Devikere on Friday, he said the all the hurdles for the easy flow of water should be cleared and a pump should be installed. In addition, a 200 kv transformer should be set up to supply electricity to the pump, said the minister.

A review meeting will be held after a month. Strict action will be initiated against those who fail to discharge their duties effectively, he warned.

Experts have opined that with the increase in the depth of the canal, the water is not flowing smoothly and have suggested installation of pipes at a few locations.

Based on the directions of the chief minister, experts have visited the spot and will submit a report to the government shortly.

Later, a Detailed Project Report will be prepared to take up additional work to complete the Karagada drinking water project. All the works should be completed by next monsoon.

The minister also gave an ultimatum of March 2019 to complete the UGD works in Chikkamagaluru town. The work on laying pipelines for drinking water have been taken up under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and the work should be completed by June 2019.

With regards to a proposal on a mini airport, he said the district administration had identified 70 acres of land for the purpose, of which measures have been taken to acquire 40 acres of land. A 1,400 metre long runway will be constructed.
