Arebhashe Academy awards for three

The Karnataka Arebhashe Cultural and Literary Academy awards for the year 2018 will be conferred on Prof Kodi Kushalappa Gowda, Dr N Sukumar Gowda and Kaleyanda Tangamma Appaccha.

Addressing reporters in Madikeri on Tuesday, Academy chairman P C Jayaram said that Prof Kodi Kushalappa Gowda from Peraje in Madikeri taluk will be conferred with the award considering his contributions to the field of Arebhashe literature.

Dr N Sukumar Gowda from Sullia in Dakshina Kannada district will be presented with the award for his research and studies on Arebhashe language.

Kaleyanda Tangamma Appaccha will be awarded for her contributions in the field of Arebhashe culture.

The award will comprise of Rs 50,000 in cash and a citation.

About the awardees

Prof Kodi Kushalappa Gowda has written 54 research articles and 24 literary works. He has four books in English and 17 books in Kannada to his credit. His work ‘Manasa Mahabharata’ is the first epic in Arebhashe. He has also written ‘Arebhashe Vyakarana’, a grammar for Arebhashe.

Dr N Sukumar Gowda is a retired lecturer and has written a number of research articles on linguistic education. His major works include ‘Guna Shodha’ and ‘Shishupalaneya Moolabhoota Chintane’. He has established an education centre for children ‘Makkala Mantapa’ in Puttur.

Kaleyanda Tangamma Appaccha is the president of Mahila Samaja. She has written several articles in Arebhashe language which have been published in periodicals.

As a singer, Tangamma has also sung traditional songs for All India Radio. She is well versed in Kodava tradition and also provides traditional medicine for puerperal women.

Academy registrar B Chandrahas Rai, members Kanehithlu Monnappa, K Prasanna and Kadlera Tulasi Mohan were present.
