INX Media case LIVE | Chidambaram sent to Tihar jail for 14 days

A Delhi court on Thursday sent former finance minister P Chidambaram to Tihar jail in the INX Media corruption case. Special Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar sent Chidambaram to 14-days judicial custody till September 19.P Chidambaram was produced before the court where his counsel Kapil Sibal opposed the plea for judicial custody put forth by the CBI and instead offered that he be taken into ED custody. Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court, after rejecting P Chidambaram's anticipatory bail plea, had allowed him to withdraw plea challenging the order of the Special CBI Judge remanding him to CBI custody in INX Media case. Director-General of Tihar Prison Sandeep Goel said thatP Chidambaram will be kept in Jail number7 and in a separate cell. Roti, dal and subzi will be given to him and the other things like western toiletwhich the Court asked will be provided.

Hope to have my father back home very quickly, know what has to be done through legal process: Karti Chidambaram

"This is a process which we are well aware of. I've gone through the same thing last year. We'll go through this process and I hope to have my father back home very quickly. I know what has to be done through the legal process," said Karti Chidambaram, speaking with media after the order.

"This is how it works out, unfortunately, after police custody for investigation, this sort of judicial custody follows," he added.
