'Walking God' Siddaganga seer gets state funeral

Shivakumara Swami, the head pontiff of five-centuries-old Siddaganga Mutt in Tumakuru passed away at 11.44 am on Monday. Thousands of devotees and several political personalities, including the incumbent Karnataka CM H D Kumaraswamy and former CMs B S Yeddyurappa and Siddaramaiah, are present at Tumkur for the swami's final rites. The seer's body arrived at the final resting place at 5:50 PM. He was given state honours and moved to the temple, where elaborate poojas took place and he was given a state funeral in the Mutt's premises.

    The entrance next to the main gate has been closed for the public as the time nears for the final rites. More than 50000 people are still waiting for the last glimpse of the seer. The time of the final rites has been postponed by half an hour from 4.30 pm to 5 pm.

    It is unclear whether the second gate has been closed. Thousands are still queueing up in the lines. Police are moving towards the railings to ensure no untoward incident takes place.
