About 60% of the repair work of Makutta Road which connects Kodagu with Kerala has been completed. The road will be ready by February 15.

After the road was damaged following landslides at several locations, the movement of vehicles was restricted on the road. The district administration had later allowed light vehicles to ply on the road after temporary works for the road were completed.

The permanent repair work is currently being carried out using the latest technology. After the completion of the work, the road will be opened for all types of traffic.

The government had sanctioned Rs 9.30 crore for the construction of the retaining wall, repair of the bridge and widening and development of the road. The PWD had utilised Rs 4.70 crore for the repair of the bridge.

Experts from NITK Surathkal and Border Roads Organisation had visited Makutta Road and provided suggestions for the repair works. The works were then carried out as per the suggestions of the experts.

The bridges at Vatekolli, Memonakolli and Hanumanpala near Ambu Hotel have been repaired.

To strengthen sandbags used for the road work, aluminium coated Gabion mesh along with geo-fabric cloth have been used.
